Rev. Dr. Thomas R. Logsdon


The Rev. Dr. Thomas R. Logsdon was appointed to the Sugar Creek United Methodist Church on July 1, 2000.  He comes to Sugar Creek with more than 25 years experience as a parish pastor and denominational executive.  Appointed to his first parish on July 5, 1975, Pastor Tom served churches throughout Central Illinois until he was appointed on November 2, 1992 to the General Board of Global Ministries - the official mission agency of The United Methodist Church and one of the largest protestant mission boards in the world. His office was located in New York City.

While at the General Board of Global Ministries, Dr. Logsdon was responsible for all United Methodist projects, personnel, and relationships in the 10 southernmost countries of Africa from 1992 through 1996.  In September of 1996, he was assigned to the Mission Personnel Program Area, where he was responsible for all United Methodist missionaries and other personnel serving in sub-Saharan Africa (September - December, 1992) and East Asia/Pacific (January 1993 - June 2000). Included in the East Asia/Pacific Region are countries such as China, Japan, Korea, Cambodia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, and the islands of the Pacific. During this time, Dr. Logsdon was responsible for supervising more than 100 United Methodist missionaries, mission interns, and other personnel serving within that region, as well as recruiting persons from that region to serve as mission personnel throughout the world.

Dr. Logsdon has published more than 20 devotional and Christian education pieces on topics ranging from Bible study and Islam to gene splicing and suicide.  He has taught American History on the university level and is a sought after teacher, preacher and presenter for Regional and Conference Schools of Christian Mission, Conference Schools for License as Local Pastor, District Mission Saturations, and other key mission events.

A world traveler, Dr. Logsdon has visited 35 countries on five continents. He has a Bachelors of Arts in Religion from Illinois Wesleyan University (Bloomington, IL), a Master of Divinity from The Chicago Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Arts in History from Illinois State University (Normal, IL).  He is married to Janice Logsdon, a Licensed Local Pastor of the United Methodist Church and an Administrative Assistant for the Conference Ministry Team of the Illinois Great Rivers Annual Conference.  They have two children (Julie and Ronnie), a son-in-law (JB), and a grandson (Nick).
