Footsteps Ministry

An exciting new Ministry at Sugar Creek!

Souls and Soles—Many years ago, on a bitterly cold day in February, a little boy was standing barefoot in front of a shoe store in New York.  A woman riding up the street in a beautiful carriage saw him and ordered her driver to stop.  She alighted from her carriage and quickly went to the boy.  “My little fellow, why are you looking so earnestly in that window?”

“I was asking God to give me a pair of shoes,” he replied.  The woman took him by the hand and went into the store.  She asked the proprietor for half a dozen pairs of socks.  She also asked for a basin of warm water and a towel.  When he brought them to her, she took the boy to the back of the store, removed her gloves, knelt down, washed his grimy feet, and dried them with the towel.

She then had him put on a pair of socks.  Returning to the front of the store, she bought him a pair of shiny black shoes.  As they parted she said, “I hope, my little fellow, that you are more comfortable.”  He caught her hand and with tears in his eyes, replied to her, “Are you God’s wife?”

If we love God it shows.

The Footsteps Ministry was born from this story this summer.  The committee consists of Rinda Osborn, Carrie Woodcock, Andrea Reinwald, Lily Kurfman, Cindy Chase, Kara Mobley, and Sue Moroney.  With lots of prayer, the backing of the Sugar Creek UMC Mission Committee, several organizational meetings and some set backs we are finely on our way to getting this new ministry off the ground.

This ministry will be school year round, and will serve Pawnee, Divernon, Ball Elementary, and Rochester Jr. High schools.  We have a representative in each of these schools, working with the school employees to guide us to the children who are in need of this ministry.  This will also be a joint ministry with our youth.  They will be providing socks to give with each pair of shoes.

We will be holding 4 money makers, one this year and 3 next year…

Please join us on Sunday, November 19th for breakfast in the fellowship hall.  There will be two serving times 7:00 a.m.—8:00 a.m. and then immediately following the 8:15 a.m. service.  The menu will be:  scrambled eggs, sausage links, pancakes, fruit, juice and coffee.  Please sign up on the Sunday Stub to let us know you will be attending.  This is for a free will offering.  This breakfast will be done quarterly.

This outreach will help many children, and we feel God has called Sugar Creek to step up to this new children’s ministry.  We will need your financial help, your hands, and your prayers.  If you would like to help with the breakfast call Rinda Osborn.
